Wheel Alignment & Tracking · Pontefract
Wheel Alignment & Tracking in Pontefract, West Yorkshire
One good pothole is all it takes to knock your tracking out. If the car pulls, the wheel sits off-centre, or your tyres are wearing unevenly, bring it to RDA Car Sales in Upton, Pontefract and we'll measure it and set it right.
Tracking and Alignment Set Correctly in Pontefract
Wheel alignment is the set of angles your wheels sit at relative to each other and to the road — toe, camber and caster. Manufacturers specify those angles tightly, and it takes surprisingly little to disturb them: a kerb taken at an awkward angle, a deep pothole on a back road, or simply the gradual settling of suspension components as they age.
When the angles are out, the tyres are effectively being dragged sideways a fraction as you drive. You feel it as a pull to one side or a steering wheel that sits crooked on a straight road, and you pay for it in tyres that scrub out on one edge months early. We measure all the adjustable angles against your car's own figures and set them back to where they should be.
The Benefits
Tyres That Last Their Mileage
Correct angles stop the scrubbing that wears an edge off a tyre thousands of miles before its time.
Straight Steering
No pull to one side, and a steering wheel that actually sits level when the road is straight.
Predictable Handling
The car goes where you point it, which matters most in the wet and under hard braking.
Less Drag, Less Fuel
Wheels fighting each other add rolling resistance. Setting them true takes that back out.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between tracking and wheel alignment?
Tracking usually refers to setting the front toe angle — how much the front wheels point inward or outward relative to each other. Full alignment covers that plus camber and caster, and looks at the rear axle as well as the front. Many cars only offer adjustment at the front, in which case tracking is effectively the whole job.
How often should alignment be checked?
There is no service interval for it, because it is driven by events rather than mileage. It is worth checking once a year, after fitting new tyres, and any time you have hit a pothole or kerb hard enough to make you wince. If you have noticed a pull or uneven tyre wear, check it straight away rather than waiting.
Can alignment fix a car that pulls to one side?
Often, yes, but not always — a pull can also come from uneven tyre pressures, a sticking brake caliper, or a worn suspension bush. That is why we inspect the steering and suspension joints before adjusting anything. Setting the angles on a car with a worn track rod end simply moves the problem rather than fixing it.
Will alignment stop my tyres wearing unevenly?
If the uneven wear is being caused by the angles, yes. Wear concentrated on one edge of a front tyre is the classic alignment signature. Wear in the centre or on both edges usually points at pressures instead, and patchy or scalloped wear often means a worn shock absorber, so we look at the pattern before deciding what the fix is.
